Our Story

Edgewater Hilltop Golf offers a little piece of heaven on the Lautrup property where owners George and Jeanette have lived since their marriage in 1964. George’s patents Valdemar and Dagny, emigrated from Denmark and bought the land in 1935. Their boys helped on the farm with the cows, chickens and haying.

George and Jeanette raised their children in the same family home. Even with four young children, Jeanette played golf regularly. Grandma babysat and Jeanette slipped out during naptime for her ladies league in Radium. The idea to transform the farm to a golf course was George’s – “Jeanette loves golf, and I bet there are lots of others who love golf too ....” The last hay crop was taken off the farm in 1990. The fields were mowed for two years to allow the grass to matt and to set a good base. Construction started in 1992 and the first round was played in 1994.

Golfers who play at the Hilltop, return each year, looking forward to their game of golf, the homemade food and checking out Jeanette’s annual needlepoint samplers in the washrooms. The family photos in the clubhouse are a favourite for the golfers. Ask why Hole #5 is so green!
